Discovering Self Love
It’s no secret, we live in a society which forces us to feel bad about ourselves. Numbers dictate everything- numbers on a scale, numbers of a dress size, number of likes or followers. Women are constantly pitted against one another to be skinnier, sexier, look younger. Sometimes we put so much emphasis on numbers and on our appearance we forget to just live.
Something I learned about recently is Self love and how to Love myself. Taking myself on lunch dates, buying myself flowers just because, reading in coffee shops, and rediscovering who I am and what makes me happy. I realized I actually liked spending time with myself. I loved long drives to go diving and meeting new friends. I loved painting and expressing myself on a canvas. I loved cooking all sorts of food and baking cookies and cupcakes. I loved working out and doing yoga. I enjoyed being myself and considered my time alone valuable and sacred.
After learning to love yourself, you’ll realize that comparing your own journey to another person’s is absolutely disrespectful to your progress. You are your own person, with your own quirks, skills, likes and dislikes. Your body has scars, lines, wrinkles and maybe tattoos that hold meaning to you. Never compare, Love yourself. You are a special and unique the way God intended you to be.
It’s common these days for women to attribute their self worth to being with a man. Some girls wear their relationships like badges of honor as if being single is some kind of contagious disease. It’s not their fault. Social media and television often glorify that fairytale happy ending for girls, only leaving them to be disappointed in the end when reality is far different from expectations.
At the end of the day, I truly believe you need to learn Self Love and to love yourself, as well as to enjoy your own company before sharing your own energy with others.
